How does the Navy method body fat calculator work?
The U.S. Navy method estimates body fat percentage using circumference measurements — neck, waist, and hips (for women). The formula was developed by Hodgdon and Beckett and correlates within 3-4% of hydrostatic weighing for most people. It is the most accessible field method that does not require specialized equipment.
What is a healthy body fat percentage?
For men, 10-20% body fat is generally considered the fitness range, with 6-13% being athletic and above 25% classified as obese. For women, 18-28% is the fitness range, 14-20% is athletic, and above 32% is classified as obese. Essential fat is approximately 2-5% for men and 10-13% for women.
Is body fat percentage more useful than BMI?
