For most people, the Garmin CIRQA ($199.99). Garmin says it needs no subscription, and its sleep, HRV status, Body Battery and training readiness data live in the Garmin Connect app, whose existing features Garmin keeps free. Under $100, the Google Fitbit Air ($99.99) keeps readiness, sleep stages, HRV and SpO2 in the free Base tier of the Google Health app. For a ring, the Ultrahuman Ring PRO ($479 in the US) has no recurring fees.
What is the best health tracker without a subscription?
For health data with no fees, the Garmin CIRQA ($199.99) and Google Fitbit Air ($99.99) lead our ranking, and both keep sleep and HRV tracking free. If you prefer a ring, the Ultrahuman Ring PRO ($479 in the US) charges no recurring fees. Oura works differently: without its membership you only see three daily scores.
Does Garmin require a subscription?
No. When Garmin launched Connect+ in March 2025 for $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year, it said all existing Garmin Connect features and data remain free. Connect+ adds extras such as Active Intelligence AI insights and expanded LiveTrack.
Do Fitbit and Pixel Watch need Premium?
Not for tracking. The free Base tier of the Google Health app covers steps, readiness, sleep score and stages, heart rate, HRV, breathing rate and SpO2. Google Health Premium, formerly Fitbit Premium, costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year and adds the Google Health Coach built with Gemini.
Is there a WHOOP without a subscription?
No. WHOOP sells its band only with a membership: One costs $199 a year, Peak $239 and Life $359, according to WHOOP's membership page. The screen-free bands in our ranking that need no subscription are the Garmin CIRQA and Google Fitbit Air.
Can you use an Oura Ring without a membership?
Only partly. Oura says that without an active membership you see your three daily scores (Readiness, Activity and Sleep), ring battery, basic profile, app settings and Explore content. The membership is $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year in the US, and Gen2 rings do not need one.
