How we rated the Galaxy Watch
★★★★★3.6/ 5, Vora editorial rating

Our own assessment of a device we do not sell, weighted across six dimensions: accuracy 30 percent, coverage 20 percent, battery 15 percent, value 15 percent, comfort 10 percent, app and ecosystem 10 percent. Every score links to its source: independent testing, or the brand's own page for current-model specs and prices.

Accuracy70

In 2024 testing, rest and sleep HR were strong but exercise HR was inconsistent and GPS badly inaccurate, so it reads as a trend device rather than a training-grade one.

In 2024 testing, DC Rainmaker found running optical HR did surprisingly well most of the time but cycling HR was all over the place, and GPS accumulated roughly 20 to 30m of error per kilometer and wandered even in wide-open, treeless conditions. DC Rainmaker ↗

Coverage & features86

For a mainstream smartwatch it covers nearly every consumer health signal, including features most rivals lack like wrist bioimpedance body composition.

Samsung's US page for Galaxy Watch9 lists an ECG Monitor app that flags irregular heart rhythms suggestive of AFib, FDA-cleared sleep apnea risk detection, morning blood pressure estimates after cuff calibration, BIA body composition, and Vitals tracking of heart rate, HRV, respiration rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen. Samsung US: Galaxy Watch9 ↗

Battery48

Samsung gives Galaxy Watch9 a bigger battery but lists no battery life in hours on its US page, so this score is unchanged until its endurance is independently measured.

Samsung says the 40 mm Galaxy Watch9 has a 390 mAh battery, 20 percent larger than the 40 mm previous-generation Galaxy Watch8, and the 44 mm has 445 mAh, which it says means less frequent charging. Samsung US: Galaxy Watch9 ↗

Comfort72

Light and easy to wear once broken in, but a 2024 review found the raised sensor node and bright rear LEDs made it a poor watch to wear to bed.

In 2024, Engadget's reviewer found the convex sensor node uncomfortable enough to remove the watch mid-night at first and needed about a week to adjust, and noted the LED sensors can disrupt sleep. Engadget ↗

App & ecosystem76

Wear OS plus Samsung Health is polished and app-rich and feeds Vora via Health Connect, but the best AI health features are gated to Samsung phones.

Samsung's Galaxy Watch9 page says Galaxy AI features require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, the Samsung Health app and a Samsung account, and lists Vitals, Energy Score and sleep apnea detection as available on Android phones running Android 13 or above. Samsung US: Galaxy Watch9 ↗

Value78

With no required subscription it is a strong-value Android health watch, though Galaxy Watch9 starts at $379.99.

Samsung's US store lists Galaxy Watch9 from $379.99 before trade-in, and its page says premium content powered by iFIT is optional and requires a paid subscription. Samsung US: Galaxy Watch9 ↗
