Workouts, readiness and recovery

How does Vora’s readiness score work?

Vora’s readiness score is a 0 to 100 score that decides whether your daily plan suggests training or rest. With sleep, HRV and resting heart rate from a wearable, it weighs muscle recovery from your workouts (35%), last night’s sleep (20%), HRV against your two-week average (20%), training load over the past week (15%) and resting heart rate (10%), and below 40 Vora suggests a rest and recovery day.

Readiness is not the Recovery score

The readiness score works behind your daily and weekly plans. Vora does not show it as a number in the app, though its short explanation can appear with a workout suggestion.

The Recovery score you see in the app is a separate score, built from overnight HRV, resting heart rate and sleep. It is explained further down this page.

What goes into the readiness score

Resting heart rate counts only when sleep and HRV are there too. If Vora has no muscle recovery data, the other inputs share its weight.

How each input is scored

  • Muscle recovery comes from your recent workouts.
  • Sleep is scored on how long you slept in the last 24 hours. Seven to nine hours gets full marks, and shorter nights score lower.
  • HRV is compared with your average over the past two weeks. At or above your average scores well, and the score drops faster the further below it you are.
  • Resting heart rate uses fixed ranges rather than your own baseline: 60 beats per minute or lower scores highest, and above 80 scores lowest.
  • Training load looks at how many workouts you completed in the past seven days and how many days it has been since the last one. Workouts your wearable records count, as well as the ones you log in Vora.
  • If you log periods, the score can be adjusted for your cycle phase. The adjustment is halved for perimenopause, breastfeeding and hormonal contraception, and not used in pregnancy, postpartum or after menopause.

What the readiness score changes

  • Below 40, your daily plan suggests a rest and recovery day instead of a new workout.
  • Vora also weighs other signs when deciding whether to suggest rest, including a score under 50, less than 5.5 hours of sleep, training several days in a row, HRV more than 15% below your two-week average, and already reaching your weekly workout target.
  • Below 60, a workout already on your schedule can come with adjustments.
  • The weekly plan passes the score to the AI that writes each day’s workout.

How the Recovery score in the app works

  • It combines overnight HRV (50%), resting heart rate (30%) and your Sleep score (20%), re-weighted over whatever your devices provide.
  • Each reading is compared with your own recent baseline. Matching your baseline scores about 68, and the score rises or falls from there.
  • Vora needs at least seven days of readings before it can score, and HRV counts for less while your history is short.
  • A body temperature more than 0.15 °C above your baseline lowers the score, by up to 28 points, as a sign of illness or strain. Running cool lowers it a little.
  • Low overnight blood oxygen or a raised breathing rate can cap the score.
  • No Recovery score appears until that night’s HRV or resting heart rate has synced.
  • Workouts do not feed the Recovery score directly. They show up in muscle recovery and strain.

Free or Pro

The readiness score, the Recovery score and Vora’s other health scores are included on every plan.

Limits

  • Both scores depend on what your devices share. Samsung Health, for example, does not share HRV or resting heart rate with Vora.
  • Vora does not import other companies’ scores, such as Oura Readiness, WHOOP recovery or Garmin Training Readiness. It calculates its own from the underlying data.
  • These scores are fitness and wellness guidance, not a medical assessment.
