AI and Health
Disclosure: we make Vora, one of the apps this guide covers, so Vora is not ranked. It has its own section, Where Vora Fits, after the list.
Quick Answer
Many apps call themselves free, then lock the part you actually want behind a subscription. A few are genuinely useful for free. We ranked the apps on what you can do every day at no cost, and on which phone you carry, because that turns out to decide most of the answer. Bevel leads on iPhone: it offers one of the strongest free tracking suites anywhere, while charging for its proactive AI, Biological Age, and Health Records. The Longevity AI is the pick that keeps core coaching free on both iPhone and Android. Google Health, the app that replaced Fitbit, is free to track with but charges for its coach. FatSecret is a solid free nutrition tracker. Apple Health is free but passive, so it stores data without coaching you.
The catch that now defines this category: the best-funded AI health coach on the market is not free. Google announced on May 7, 2026 that the Fitbit app was becoming the Google Health app, and its Gemini-powered Google Health Coach went publicly available on May 19 as part of Google Health Premium, at $9.99 a month or $99 a year. Everything below is what is left when you refuse to pay that.
What "Free" Really Means in Health Apps
Free has tiers. Some apps offer a short trial, then paywall everything. Some keep one feature free and gate the rest. A truly free coach gives you ongoing value without a credit card and without crippling the core experience. When you compare free health apps, the real question is what you can do every day at no cost, not whether the download is free.
There is a second question most lists skip: whether the app exists on your phone at all. Several of the strongest free health apps in 2026 are iPhone only, so an Android owner reading a generic ranking ends up with a list they cannot install. We have marked the platform on every entry below.
Best Free Health Coach Apps by Use Case
- Best free iPhone health dashboard: Bevel
- Best free coaching on both platforms: The Longevity AI
- Best free tracking hub on Android: Google Health (the coach itself is paid)
- Best free nutrition tracker: FatSecret
- Best free data vault (no coaching): Apple Health
1. Bevel - Best Free iPhone Health Dashboard
Best for: iPhone users who want comprehensive tracking and dashboards without a subscription.
Platform: iPhone only. Bevel's own feature request board still lists an Android version as "under review", with more than 730 votes behind it and no announced release date, so Android owners cannot use this pick at all. We track that in our Bevel for Android status page.
Bevel keeps recovery, sleep, strain, stress, nutrition, strength training, cycle tracking, and the Apple Watch app free. It also supports direct Oura, Garmin, and Strava integrations. The boundary is clear: Bevel Intelligence, Biological Age, and Health Records require Pro, so this is excellent free tracking rather than a completely free AI coach.
2. The Longevity AI - Best Free Coaching on iPhone and Android
Best for: People who want free coaching across activity, diet, sleep, and mindfulness, on either phone.
Platform: iPhone and Android. Its Google Play listing, last updated April 16, 2026, carries no in-app purchase label and no ads label, which matches the maker's claim that the core features are free.
The Longevity AI keeps its core four-pillar coaching free. It is a good free starting point for general wellness, and in 2026 it is the clearest answer for an Android owner who wants coaching rather than just charts. Deep wearable integration and structured strength programming are lighter than a dedicated training coach.
3. Google Health - Free to Track With, Paid to Be Coached
Best for: Fitbit and Pixel Watch owners who want their existing data in one free place.
Platform: iPhone and Android.
This is the entry most people are actually asking about, and the answer is a split. The free Google Health app collects and shows your activity, sleep and health data, and Google said in March 2026 that "users without a Premium membership can join Public Preview to track your health, fitness, sleep and more". But the coaching conversation is not in that free tier: Google's own post puts "Ask Coach and custom fitness plans" behind Premium, and Google Health Premium costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year.
So Google Health belongs on a free list as a tracker, not as a free AI coach. If you bought a Fitbit Air, the three months of Premium included with it are a trial, not a free tier. If you are working out what still reaches this app, we covered that in which apps still sync after the Fitbit to Google Health move.
4. FatSecret - Best Free Nutrition Tracker
Best for: People who only need free calorie and macro tracking.
Platform: iPhone and Android.
FatSecret offers its core calorie and macro tracking without a paywall, with barcode scanning and a large food database. There is a paid tier: its Google Play listing shows in-app purchases from $14.99 to $59.99 per item, so treat the free version as the product and the upgrade as optional. If nutrition tracking is all you need for free, it is reliable. It does not provide training, recovery, or whole-day AI coaching.
5. Apple Health - Best Free Data Vault
Best for: Storing and viewing your iPhone and Apple Watch data.
Platform: iPhone only.
Apple Health is free and excellent at collecting steps, heart rate, sleep, and workouts. What it does not do is coach. To turn that data into a daily plan, you pair it with an app that reads Apple Health and adds recommendations on top.

What Android Owners Should Actually Install
If you searched for a free health coach app on an Android phone, half the usual recommendations are unavailable to you. Bevel and Apple Health are iPhone only. Here is the honest shortlist for Android in 2026.
- Free coaching: The Longevity AI is the main option that keeps its core coaching free on Android rather than charging for it.
- Free tracking hub: Google Health, as long as you understand the coach is a $9.99 a month add-on.
- Free and already on most Android phones: Samsung Health. Samsung says the app is free on the Google Play Store, and it is not limited to Galaxy phones, though features such as ECG and sleep apnea detection need a compatible Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring. It tracks activity, sleep, nutrition, stress and heart health at no cost.
- Free data layer: Health Connect is Android's equivalent of Apple Health. Like Apple Health it stores and shares data between apps rather than coaching you, so it is the foundation you point a coach at, not the coach.
The pattern is the same on both platforms. The free tier buys you measurement. Almost every app charges the moment the software starts telling you what to do about it.
Which Free App Should You Choose?
- You use an iPhone and mainly want free tracking dashboards: choose Bevel.
- You use Android and want free coaching: choose The Longevity AI.
- You own a Fitbit or Pixel Watch and want a free home for the data: choose Google Health, and skip Premium unless you specifically want Ask Coach.
- You only need free calorie tracking: choose FatSecret.
- You just want to store your data: Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android, then add a free coach on top.

Where Vora Fits
We make Vora, so it is not in the ranked list above. Here is exactly what it gives you for free and what needs Pro, checked against Vora's help center.
Free on every plan: food logging by photo, barcode, voice, description and search; workout logging and one AI workout suggestion; every health data connection, including Apple Health, Health Connect and direct Oura, Garmin, Fitbit, WHOOP (beta) and Samsung Health connections; Sleep, Recovery and Strain scores with sleep and cycle tracking; Bloodwork; and 10 AI messages a day, shared between the coach in the app and Vora AI Text.
Needs Vora Pro ($12.99 a month or $89.99 a year): 100 AI messages a day, AI-generated workouts, three workout suggestions each morning, choosing which device powers each metric, and Deep Health Reports.
Limits to know:
- The direct WHOOP connection is in beta with limited spots, and it does not import WHOOP's recovery score or day strain.
- Direct Fitbit spots are limited while Google verifies Vora's Fitbit access.
- Samsung Health does not share HRV, resting heart rate or respiratory rate with Vora.
- Garmin's Body Battery and Training Readiness scores are not imported.
